MedGarde to Deploy New Document Management System

Chantilly, Virginia (June 1, 2006) Following extensive preparation, MedGarde is announcing the rollout of its new document management technology - MediScribe. The company will be discontinuing its LiFECYCLE and ChoiceSuite product lines in favor of a new system designed to deliver similar yet streamlined and significantly improved capabilities. MedGarde will begin a phased transition to the new system beginning June 2006. The transition is scheduled to be complete by September 2006. Following the implementation of MediScribe, dictators and their support staff will have immediate access to enhanced features including:

  • Electronic Signature
  • Remote Printing
  • Web Based Document Inquiry
  • Automated Faxing
  • HL7 Integrations

The new technology will work seamlessly with MedGarde’s dictation system to deliver the aforementioned improvements. Clients can elect to use any combination of the new features; however, the new technology will not impose any changes on the end-user. A recent poll conducted by MedGarde’s executive staff revealed that the overwhelming majority of MedGarde’s clients are eager to make use of the enhanced system.

Beyond MedGarde’s client base, MediScribe will deliver a unified transcription platform to MedGarde’s network of at-home medical transcriptionists. Many tasks which have been manually performed can now be automated. This means more time spent on transcription and less time consumed by repetitive administrative tasks. In addition, the new technology will improve communications with MedGarde’s nationwide workforce via a proprietary instant messaging system. Cynthia Kisamore, a MedGarde transcriptionist based in North Carolina, had this to say about the upgrade, “The new platform sounds like it is going to have some wonderful features. I can't wait to use it!” Ultimately, MedGarde’s upgrade will lead to a streamlined transcription process that improves overall document quality and consistency.

Clients seeking more information regarding the rollout of MediScribe are encouraged to visit www.medgarde.com or to contact their account representative.

MedGarde Celebrates National Medical Transcriptionist Week

Annandale, VA (May 18, 2002) MedGarde is excited to announce the arrival of National Medical Transcriptionist Week. The company will be celebrating this week May 19 through May 25 by individually recognizing the efforts of each of its transcriptionists and inviting its clients to take note of this special occasion. Every year this week is reserved to celebrate the talents of medical transcriptionists and it serves as a forum to remind everyone of the vital role that medical transcriptionists play in the delivery of healthcare.

This year, the professional association of the medical transcription industry, AAMT (American Association for Medical Transcription), will be featured on a television show airing during National Medical Transcriptionist Week. Alexander Haig’s World Business Review, Special Medical Edition will feature AAMT to viewers nationwide. This show is typically seen on PBS, Long Term Care Network, and Health and Science Television Network. Please check your local listings or contact MedGarde for more information.

President Ronald Reagan first proclaimed National Medical Transcriptionist Week into observance on May 21, 1985. You can join MedGarde in celebrating this week by reading the proclamation recognizing medical transcriptionists below.

PROCLAMATION 5345 -- NATIONAL MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST WEEK, MAY 21, 1985

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Record-keeping is a vital function in our society, and one of the most important records for every American is the medical record. That record, including reports prepared and edited by a medical transcriptionist from physician dictation, is the permanent history of a patient's medical care.

A century ago, physicians knew many of their patients from birth, knew all their ailments, and provided all their medical care. Today, with medical specialization and greater mobility among people, many skilled physicians may treat the average American during a lifetime. Using transcribed medical reports, each physician can easily and quickly review a patient's medical history even if the physician has never seen that patient before. Because of the work done by trained medical transcriptionists, patients can be assured that the history of their medical care is portrayed accurately and legibly. Medical transcriptionists have therefore become a vital link between the physician and the patient.

It is appropriate for our Nation to recognize the contributions of medical transcriptionists. We should encourage hospitals, allied health education programs, and community colleges to provide appropriate courses of instruction recognizing the high standards that must be met by medical transcriptionists and the vital function they perform.

In recognition of the need for medical transcriptionists in today's society, the Congress, by Public Law 98 - 609, has designated the week beginning May 20, 1985, as "National Medical Transcriptionist Week" and authorized and requested the President to issue a proclamation in observance of this event.

Now, Therefore, I, Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, do hereby designate the week of May 20 through May 26, 1985, as National Medical Transcriptionist Week, and I urge all Americans to participate in appropriate ceremonies in observance of this event.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-first day of May, in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and eighty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and ninth.

RONALD REAGAN

MedGarde Addresses HIPAA

Annandale, VA (May 13, 2002) With the impending HIPAA regulations just a little less than a year away, MedGarde Corporation is working diligently to make certain that its systems and business procedures will be HIPAA compliant to meet the April 14, 2003 deadline. HIPAA, or the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, was born out of increasing concern regarding the integrity of patient privacy and confidentiality. Its relevance has become quite evident in recent years with the ease of access to medical records made possible by the Internet. On April 14, 2003, the HIPAA regulations will require all who have access to medical records (including hospitals, clinics, private practices, and their business associates like MedGarde) to comply with the privacy and confidentiality standards set forth by the federal government.

Although MedGarde has always taken strong precautionary measures to protect privileged information, the company is now investing even more significantly to achieve HIPAA compliance. MedGarde has dedicated an in-house initiative known as Team HIPAA to address the statutes in an effort to deploy MedGarde’s compliance strategy in a timeframe which meets the federal standards. Team HIPAA is also consulting with outside agencies to keep abreast of the latest changes as they occur. Simultaneously, educational activities are being conducted internally so that MedGarde’s staff stays abreast of the regulations.

MedGarde will be working closely with its client base over the next several months to implement the privacy and confidentiality standards set forth by this legislation. Between now and the deadline, MedGarde will assist its clients in achieving compliance by keeping them updated with mailings, feature articles in their newsletter - The MedGarde Compendium, and through press releases.

For more resources on HIPAA, please visit www.MedGarde.com. You may also visit the United States Department of Health and Human Services at http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa/ for additional information. Printed copies of the final ruling may be purchased from the Government Printing Office at 202-512-1800.
